What is Summer Swim Team?
Foothills Tennis and Swimming Club is a member of the Peninsula Swim Association (PSA), a summer recreational youth swim league. Swimmers train in practices under the direction of a head coach and several assistant coaches during the swim team season. There are five dual club meets, a relay meet, and the Championship Meet. Each swimmer can swim in up to three individual events and one relay at a dual meet, and two individual events and one relay at the Championship Meet.
Goals for the Summer Swim Team Program
- To encourage and promote swimming, work to improve strokes and techniques, promote good sportsmanship, and build self-esteem.
- To develop and foster friendships and team unity through activities that increase team spirit.
- To encourage greater team involvement by Foothills older swimmers, ages 12-18.
- To have fun!
Who can participate?
- Foothills members
- Must be able to swim the length of a 25-yard pool to compete in meets (except for the relay meet, which is by invitation only)
- The maximum age: 18 years old.
- Swimmers compete with other swimmers of the same age and sex.
- A swimmer's practice group is determined by his/her age on June 1st.
Practices are divided into four age groups: Guppies (beginners 8 & under), Stingrays (7-8), Piranhas (9-10), & Sharks (11-18).
About practices
Swimmers are encouraged to attend as many practices as possible, but coaches understand your children's busy schedules. Practice uniforms should include a swimsuit that is comfortable and will not fall off when diving. Swim caps are recommended for any swimmer with long hair. Goggles will help eyes that are sensitive to pool chemicals.
Parent involvement is vital‚ and required for participation!
For those of you new to the summer swim league experience, participating in swim meets is a FAMILY AFFAIR! Being a Foothills team parent requires time, commitment, and energy, and it is a lot of fun and a great way to get to know other Foothills families!
Parents run the swim meets -- we don't bring in hired professionals -- and the result is a true family gathering. It takes about 60-70 people total to run each meet. Both clubs provide volunteers to fill these spots.
We expect every family to offer a parent volunteer to work at the meets as follows:
- at least 3 FULL regular meets and one social activity. If a family does not sign up for the required number of jobs, then we will assign a meet and job to them.
- If your child(ren) compete in the Relay Meet or Championship Meet, you will be required to help staff those meets as well.

Registration and Fees
Swim team registration opens on Summer Sign-Up Day, the first Saturday of April. Team practice begins the next Monday. Your child must be registered before participating in practice.
Completed registration forms should be turned in to the swim office. If the swim office is closed, please turn in forms in the main office. Because volunteer participation is essential to the success of our team season, registration forms will not be accepted unless accompanied by a volunteer form.
The fee for swim team participation for 2010 is $275 per child, with a discount of $35 for your third and fourth children. The Club will bill you in early June. This fee includes: PSA dues, ribbons for each meet, end of season participation awards, swim team t-shirt, championship meet entry fee, and four months of terrific coaching by our Foothills coaching staff.
Registered swimmers will receive their team tee shirt & gift on Summer Sign-Up Day. Other team apparel - suits, caps, goggles, and sweats may be purchased or ordered on that day.
Swimmers 15 years old and older (on June 1st) may register for the team without paying fees. We encourage our older swimmers to participate by coming out for practices and swimming in the meets because they are great role models for our younger swimmers.
