Program Overview
Summer Fireballs is a junior tennis program designed to help players from 7 to 16 years old develop their tennis skills in a sociable and supportive group environment. All interested members are welcome to join, regardless of their experience or skill level. Non-members may join as space permits. There are two time slots to choose from, both open to all levels. Coaches will divide players into groups based on age and ability. Players ages 15-16 will be in a special 'Tournament Team Workout' group that has one time slot with a minimum of four participants. If we don’t get to four participants, players should arrange semi-private lessons with the pros. Players must be approved by the tennis director, Henry Kamakana. They must have played novice or challenger.

Coaches
Henry Kamakana, Tennis Director & Head Pro since 1984, is the program supervisor. Henry, the son of the Head Tennis Pro at the Mauna Kea Hotel, grew up on the tropical courts of Hawaii.  His extraordinary teaching skills are widely recognized, and his enthusiasm for the sport is a motivating force for children.

Terry Roundtree, Jr. Tennis Director joined Foothills this year from Alpine Hills where he was involved with their successful junior program for thirteen years, the last three as the director. Terry grew up in the Bay Area, has taught tennis since 1995 and is certified by the USPTA as a P1 tennis instructor. Terry believes in creating lifelong players, “teaching in a way that they love all parts of the tennis experience: love to practice, love to play and love to compete.” Terry oversees the Junior Tennis program at Foothills, and offers private lessons.

Susan Zaro, Associate Tennis Pro & Camp Miranda Director played on the professional circuit and has been teaching tennis for over 30 years. She has a Masters in counseling and psychology, and is a licensed psycho-therapist specializing in work with athletes, families, and coaches. Susan has worked extensively with children and combines her teaching skills with an understanding of the mental aspects of tennis to create an environment where children have fun while they're learning. Susan directs workouts four days a week.

Additional Staff are selected based on their tennis experience, coaching ability, and enthusiasm for the game. Each coach brings unique skills, background, and personality to create a positive atmosphere.
